Overview

Dependent Custom Options extension helps you implement custom-dependent options on your online store. It allows you to create product options that are dependent on each other, where the selection of one option dynamically updates the available choices for subsequent options.

After installing this extension, the admin will be able to create product options that are dependent on each other. The created dependent options for a product are then visible on the product page for the customers to select.

Business Value

Let's take the example of a furniture store that offers customizable sofas In this case, the store owner wants to provide customers with the ability to select various custom options for their sofa, such as upholstery material, color, and additional features. However, some options may be dependent on others. For instance, the choice of upholstery material may affect the available color options or the selection of additional features.

By implementing the dependent custom options extension, the store owner can achieve this kind of offering with dependent custom options. The store owner can easily create the dependent custom options and assign them to the respective product as required.

Features

  • Buyers can pick product qualities that are linked to each other.
  • Admins can create a set of custom options that depend on each other.
  • The admin can assign custom options to products in an easy way.
  • The store merchants can also easily unassign custom options from products.
  • These options will display in the dropdown input type selection.

How does this extension Work?

Store Admin Workflow

Install & Make Initial Configuration Settings

After installing the extension, the Magento 2 store admin will make the initial configuration settings to create the dependent custom options and assign the dependent custom options to the product as required.

Add Dependent Custom Options

To add the dependent custom options the admin will navigate to the respective available section for the same and tap the Add Chained Custom Option tab. This brings up the section to add a chained custom option.

Here, the admin for the new chained custom option will -

  • Enter the title for the custom option
  • Select the input type as a drop-down for the custom option.
  • Set the sort order for the custom option.

Lastly, tap the Save and Continue Add/Edit Options and the option will get created. Now, the admin will add the values of the custom option by adding a row with details that include the value title, price, choosing the price type, sort order, and selecting the children for the custom option. Lastly, tap the Save Chained Custom Options tab to save this custom option.

Add Another Custom Option By Choosing a Parent

Likewise, the admin can create more custom options that will be dependent on the first created option. While creating a new custom option, the admin will have to select the parent option for the custom option on which this particular one will be dependent.

Now, the admin will have to click on the Save and Continue Add/Edit Options button. Once the admin clicks on the button Add New Row option will display.

This time the admin will view the Select Children option additionally to create the dependent option. Here, the admin needs to click on the checkbox to add the children option.

Similarly, the admin can create more dependent options that will depend on the previous one as required.

Dependent Custom Option Assignment to Product

The admin can assign the options by the Actions dropdown menu under the section “Chained Custom Option Assigned to Product”. Here, the admin needs to check the product to which the Chained custom options are to be assigned.

After that click on the Actions drop-down, there will be two options - Assign and Unassign.

The admin will have to select the Assign option and it will open the created dependent options. Select the options one by one to assign to the respective product as required.

The admin can also unassign the assigned custom option via this section as per the requirement.

Dependent Options On the Product Page

Now, after the admin has created the dependent custom options and assigned them to a product the same will appear on the product page. The customer can select one option and accordingly, the options will be available for the second custom option depending upon the selection made by the customer for the parent custom option.

After selecting all the dependent custom options for the product the customer can add the product to the cart and make a checkout after that to place the order.
