Overview

PPL Discovery Filters gives Magento merchants direct admin control over the category and search filters shoppers use to narrow results, turning storefront discovery into something you can tune and trust rather than accept as-is. It is built for catalog and merchandising teams who want responsive, predictable filtering on large categories and busy search pages, plus a clear view of what the storefront will show before shoppers see it.

Features

  • Indexed filter definitions and cached facet counts for category and search pages, so refining results stays responsive and predictable on large catalogs.
  • Admin-configurable presentation for color, size, category, price, availability, layout, position, and AJAX, so you control how each filter looks and behaves without theme overrides.
  • Layered-navigation filter replacement from the admin, so you decide which filters the storefront shows instead of accepting the defaults.
  • An Index Status view, so you can confirm what the storefront will display before judging the output.
  • Optional neutral event integration with PPL Search Intelligence through the filter-integration event, so search insights connect when that module is present.

Why merchants use it

Magento layered navigation decides which attributes become filters, how their counts are calculated, and how the navigation renders, and changing that often means theme overrides, custom code, or living with the defaults. PPL Discovery Filters closes that gap by letting you define the filter set, build its facet counts into an index, and configure presentation from the admin without a development cycle for each change. Because facets are precomputed and cached rather than rebuilt on every request, filtering stays responsive on large catalogs and busy search pages. The result is concrete: shoppers narrow results faster, merchandisers tune discovery on their own, and an Index Status view confirms what the storefront will show before you judge the output.

Common use cases

  • Speeding up filtering on a large category or a busy search-results page where request-time count recalculation feels slow.
  • Choosing which attribute filters appear on a category, and how color, size, price, and availability are presented, without a developer.
  • Replacing native layered-navigation filters with the configured filter set for a more controlled discovery experience.
  • Confirming the indexed filters and facet counts via the Index Status view before relying on them in front of shoppers.

What you get

  • The installable module package with the indexed filter and facet build, admin configuration, ACL/menu integration, and documentation.
  • Admin configuration under PPL Hub > PPL Discovery Filters, including the Index Status view.
  • ACL and menu integration through PPL Hub.
  • Translation files for 12 locales.
  • Documentation for installation, first setup, and expected empty states.

Compatibility

Designed for Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce 2.4 environments, with PHP and package requirements declared in composer.json. It requires the PPL foundation module PPL Hub and runs standalone for Magento category and search pages; it optionally cooperates with PPL Search Intelligence through the neutral filter-integration event only when that module is installed.

International store support

The module ships translation CSV files for 12 locales: de_DE, en_US, es_ES, fr_FR, it_IT, ja_JP, nl_NL, pl_PL, pt_BR, ru_RU, tr_TR, zh_CN. This gives international Magento teams a ready localization baseline while still allowing normal Magento theme and project translation overrides.

Ideal for

Catalog and merchandising teams running large Magento catalogs or high-traffic search pages who want clear admin control over which filters appear, how they are presented, and how fast they perform, with an Index Status view to verify discovery before shoppers see it.
