Back to topOverview
Back to topPPL Dev Create Orders creates realistic, repeatable test orders for development, QA, demonstrations, and disposable staging environments, allowing teams to populate sales grids, dashboards, reports, exports, widgets, and order-dependent extension tests without completing storefront checkouts by hand. After installation, an authorized administrator opens PPL Hub > PPL Dev Tool > Create Order, selects a store view and order quantity, and configures how the dataset should look: historical period, orders per batch, customer reuse or creation, customer and product pool sizes, items per order, coupon and comment rates, lifecycle-status distribution, payment method, shipping method, tax mode, order comments, and cancellation reasons. The module then creates customer- and product-backed orders in controlled Ajax batches and displays progress, created records, errors, and final totals in a live run log; the same configuration is available through the bin/magento ppl:dev:create-orders command for scripted and CI workflows. Generated orders appear only in the platform's existing back-office sales and reporting interfaces, while the storefront stays unchanged and no customer-facing UI is added. Every run is fully configurable through the supplied controls, and teams can explicitly opt in to using existing merchant products on disposable data copies, so the dataset can be tailored to whatever report, export, or widget you need to exercise. Typical uses include filling an empty sales grid so dashboards and widgets render with real revenue, checking report totals and export columns, exercising different order statuses, or preparing a reusable demo dataset. The extension is designed for non-production test data and is not intended to create genuine merchant orders.
Features
- Admin and CLI order generation, so you can seed data interactively or script it into setup and CI routines.
- Order records carrying realistic sales, payment, customer, item, and status context, so reports and exports have realistic values to act on.
- Repeatable generation you can regenerate on demand across environments, keeping test data consistent without manual rework.
- Order records that build on generated products and customers, so the seeded sales history hangs together instead of pointing at missing data.
- Admin UI reachable at PPL Hub > PPL Dev Tool > Create Order, with ACL and menu integration through PPL Dev Tool, so access fits existing admin permissions.
Why development teams use it
In a standard setup, there is no dedicated workflow for seeding realistic order data, so every developer, QA engineer, and agency tends to reinvent the same throwaway tooling. This module provides an admin surface and CLI command that create order records carrying realistic sales, payment, customer, item, and status context, so reports, exports, widgets, and smoke tests have something real to act on. You stop staging checkouts by hand or maintaining one-off insert scripts, you get consistent data you can regenerate on demand across environments, and you avoid the subtle breakage that comes from writing orders straight into the database. It is built for development, QA, demo, and disposable staging work, not for producing production merchant data.
Common use cases
- Seeding a clean install so dashboards, sales grids, and widgets render with realistic revenue values, customers, items, and statuses instead of empty states.
- Verifying that an export maps the right columns by generating orders with known sales and item context.
- Checking how a sales report behaves once revenue, customers, and statuses are in play, without clicking through storefront checkouts.
- Producing demo order and sales history for local development, QA, and demos that can be regenerated between sessions.
What you get
- The installable module package with the admin Create Order surface, CLI command, configuration, ACL/menu integration, and documentation.
- An admin UI reachable at PPL Hub > PPL Dev Tool > Create Order.
- ACL and menu integration through PPL Dev Tool.
- Translation files for 12 locales: de_DE, en_US, es_ES, fr_FR, it_IT, ja_JP, nl_NL, pl_PL, pt_BR, ru_RU, tr_TR, zh_CN.
- Documentation for installation, first setup, and expected empty states.
Compatibility
Supports the 2.4 environments listed in the Marketplace compatibility matrix, with exact PHP and package requirements declared in composer.json. Key PPL dependencies are PPL Dev Create Customers and PPL Dev Tool, since generated orders build on generated products and customers.
Ideal for
Developers, QA teams, agencies, and extension vendors that need repeatable test orders to seed sales grids, reports, exports, and smoke tests, or that maintain disposable staging and demo environments.
