Overview

SmartCategories is an intelligent category ordering extension for Magento 2 that helps you keep category pages focused on products customers can actually buy. This extension for Magento uses availability-aware scoring and optional merchandising boosts to surface in-stock items, deprioritize low-stock products, and reduce the need for manual category sorting.

SmartCategories can also detect fully out-of-stock categories to show a configurable message, suggest alternative sibling categories, and (optionally) hide fully out-of-stock leaf categories from navigation menus.

Features

  • Availability-aware ordering: Prioritize in-stock products above out-of-stock products.
  • Low-stock sensitivity: Optionally deprioritize items with low available quantity.
  • Stable ordering: Deterministic ordering to avoid visual “jumping” across pagination.
  • Out-of-stock category detection: Identify categories where all visible products are out of stock.
  • OOS category messaging: Display a configurable message when a category is fully out of stock.
  • Related collections (alternatives): Suggest active sibling categories as alternatives for fully OOS categories.
  • Menu visibility logic: Optionally hide fully out-of-stock leaf categories from navigation menus (with safety guards).
  • EOL-aware filtering (optional): Hide products that are both out of stock and marked as end-of-life (configurable attribute).
  • Admin product boosts: Define product boosts per store and (optionally) per category.
  • Time-limited campaign boosts: Schedule boosts with start and expiry dates.
  • Priority bands: Force products to “always promote” or “never promote” positions.
  • CSV import/export: Bulk manage product boosts via CSV (CLI commands).
  • Hyva-ready storefront: Compatible with Hyva theme.
