Overview

Magento 2 Catalog Permissions module gives store owners the power to control who can see categories, products, and static pages/blocks on their website. This tool provides greater flexibility and security for managing product visibility, and pricing to create better shopping experiences for their customers.

Features

  • Set separate permissions and restrictions for specified customer groups
  • Limit access to CMS pages/ blocks
  • Provide URL redirection for restricted customers
  • Set valid time for catalog restriction

Problems & Solutions

Firstly, when using the default system that does not allow for control over what is displayed to different customer segments, your store is at risk of leaking sensitive information, such as wholesale price information to retail customers. This is relatively taboo because wholesale customers never want retail customers to know the wholesale price. However, with Magento 2 Catalog Permissions, you will be able to restrict retail customers from accessing this category.

Secondly, the default system prevents you from creating personalized online shopping experiences for customers, even making them uncomfortable when they have to see deals they are not eligible to use. Customers may feel like they are not being cared for, which can lead to customer churn. In the meantime, Catalog Permissions 2 provides customized marketing services, helping you create targeted marketing campaigns to increase sales.

Thirdly, not having Catalog Permissions can make managing your product catalog and prices more complex, especially if you have many customer segments and different pricing policies. Magento 2 Catalog Permissions streamlines this management, saving you significant time and costs.

Highlight features

Set separate permissions and restrictions for specified customer groups

Magento 2 Catalog Permissions allows store owners to control which customer groups can see specific categories.

For example, a store owner is able to only show expensive watches to special groups, such as high-income customers.  Also, this product can be visible or hidden to specific groups who have no demand or cannot afford to buy it, such as students or any other customer segment. Additionally, Setting category permissions is also simple; just click, and select, then the restrictions will be applied.

Limit access to CMS pages/ blocks

The customer group restriction feature also applies to CMS pages and CMS blocks. For instance, when dealing with sensitive content like the Return and Refund Policy or Commission Policy, store admins may wish to limit access to guest visitors or even exclude retailers and permit only wholesalers to access it. This advanced permissions feature guarantees that stores have complete authority over who is granted access to particular content.

Provide URL redirection for restricted customers

Those who are prohibited from accessing specific content will be directed to alternate information. Store administrators have the flexibility to input any desired forwarding URL for their specific needs. Forwarding URLs can lead them to the Home page,  404 page, or a notification page about access permission.

Set valid time for catalog restriction

Magento 2 Category Permissions allows store owners to control when the restrictions are valid or invalid. This can be useful for limiting access to specific categories during special events or times of high demand. For example, a store might only show products to logged-in customers during peak seasons like Black Friday. Products will be automatically restricted and displayed again based on the set time, which makes it easier to track product restrictions, especially in the case of having too many products to manage.

  • Step 2: Select a restricted category you want, then go to the Restrict Customers Group(s)
  • Step 3: Select the groups you want to limit access.

Q: How do I use Magento 2 Catalog Permissions?

A: To use Magento 2 Catalog Permissions, store administrators must first enable the Catalog Permissions module. Once the module is enabled, go to Catalog > Catalog Permissions then you can control access to the product catalog.

In the Catalog Permissions page, administrators can specify which customer groups have access to which products and categories. Administrators can also specify which actions customers are allowed to perform on products and categories, such as viewing, adding to cart, and purchasing.

Q: In Magento 2 Catalog Permissions, is the number of restrictions limited?

A: The number of restrictions in Magento 2 Catalog Permissions is not limited. You can create as many restrictions as you need to control access to your product catalog for different customer groups.

However, please note that too many restrictions can make your catalog management more complex and difficult to maintain. It is important to carefully consider your needs before creating too many restrictions.

Q: Can I use Magento 2 Catalog Permissions to restrict access to CMS pages?

A: Yes, you can use Magento 2 Catalog Permissions to restrict access to CMS pages. To do this, go to CMS > Pages and select the page that you want to restrict access to. Then, click on the Permissions tab and select the customer groups that you want to restrict access to.

Q: What will customers see when they are restricted from certain types of products and click on those products?

A: Enabling customers to "get URL direction" after being restricted is one of the prominent features of this extension. The URL direction can lead to the homepage, a 404 error page, or a notification page. You can customize the settings to decide which page the URL will direct to.

Q: In case I don't have the time to manually turn off the restrictions, can I set a schedule to automatically enable and disable those restrictions?

A: Absolutely. Just like scheduling on/off times for any device, enabling or disabling restrictions is incredibly straightforward with the following steps:

Step 1: Click on Catalog > Catalog Permissions.

Step 3: Choose the restrictions that you want to set calendar.
