Image optimization is crucial in providing a better user experience, improving website performance, and positively impacting SEO and accessibility, making it an essential practice for any website owner. One efficient way to optimize your store's images is to convert them from PNG to WebP image format or AVIF image format.

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that was first announced in 2010 and introduced as a new open standard in 2011. It is designed to provide efficient image compression while maintaining high-quality visuals. WebP is particularly popular for web-based content, as it helps reduce image file sizes significantly without compromising image quality, resulting in faster website loading times.

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) indeed uses the advanced compression capabilities of the AV1 codec, which was initially developed for video compression by the Alliance for Open Media. By incorporating features like high-efficiency compression, AVIF can achieve significantly reduced file sizes while maintaining high image quality, often outperforming traditional formats like JPEG and PNG in terms of both quality and compression.

WebP Image Converter Extension for Magento 2 automatically converts all the website images into WebP/AVIF image format. Determine the quality of the compressed images of your store. This can help improve website performance by reducing image file sizes and loading times. Convert home page, product page and category page images from PNG to WebP/AVIF easily.

You can also apply settings for responsive images for all your store's CMS pages. Whenever you want to delete the WebP image and return it to its original format, just disable the extensions and perform the delete operation.
