Back to topOverview
Back to topThis is an integration extension for Magento built on Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), Google's messaging service. Browsers do not deliver push notifications directly between a store and a visitor — a message-delivery backend has to sit in between, holding the subscription and routing each notification to the right device. Firebase Cloud Messaging is the service that fills that role here, and it is the same infrastructure Google uses to power push notifications for millions of websites and apps, so it is a proven, reliable choice rather than a niche or unsupported dependency. Using it does mean this extension depends on an account you control outside of Magento: sending notifications requires a Firebase project of your own, created and configured in the Firebase Console before the extension is set up. That project is separate from your Magento Marketplace account and from the purchase of this extension, and setting it up takes only a few minutes with no cost involved — see the Account and Pricing section below for full details on creating one, what information to copy into Magento, and what it costs.
Web Push Notifications is an extension for Magento that sends real browser push notifications to storefront visitors and admin users, even when they don't have your store open in an active tab. Customers see a centered, one-click opt-in prompt on the storefront and choose to allow or block notifications; admin users see the same prompt right after logging in. Once subscribed, the store can push manual marketing campaigns to customers or rely on built-in automatic triggers — a new order or product review notifies your admin team instantly, and an invoice or shipment notifies the customer who placed the order. Every send, automatic or manual, is recorded in a delivery log with pending, sent, and failed counts, giving merchants full visibility without leaving the Magento Admin.
Features
- Real Browser Push Notifications — delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging directly to the visitor's browser, no native app or SMS gateway required.
- Forced-Choice Opt-in Prompt — a centered overlay prompt with Allow/Don't Allow only, shown to storefront guests and customers, with fully configurable title, message, and button text.
- Admin Login Opt-in — a matching centered prompt shown to admin users right after login, enrolling them to receive store activity alerts in their own browser.
- Automatic New Order Alerts — every admin subscriber gets an instant push the moment a new order is placed, with a direct link to the order.
- Automatic New Review Alerts — admin subscribers are notified the moment a customer submits a product review, sent immediately rather than on a delay.
- Automatic Customer Order Updates — customers who opted in are pushed a notification when their order is invoiced or shipped, with a link straight back to their order.
- Notification Templates — build reusable templates with a title, message, uploaded icon, redirect URL, and tag from a dedicated admin grid.
- Manual Marketing Campaigns — send any template to every active customer subscriber or to a hand-picked selection, with admin-flagged recipients automatically excluded from marketing sends.
- Subscriber Management — a searchable, sortable admin grid of every subscriber with browser, platform, subscription date, and linked customer account; mass unsubscribe or delete supported.
- Delivery Log — every notification, automatic or manual, is recorded with sent/failed counts and error detail for full auditability.
- Guest and Customer Support — guests can opt in without an account; the subscription automatically links to the customer record when the visitor is logged in.
- Enable / Disable without Uninstalling — a single configuration switch suppresses the prompt and all sending while preserving every subscriber, template, and log entry.
Account and Pricing
This extension requires a Firebase account, separate from your Magento Marketplace account and from the purchase of this extension. Firebase is a product of Google; creating a project is free and does not require a credit card. Create your Firebase project and enable Cloud Messaging before configuring the extension, since the Admin configuration screen asks for the Firebase Web SDK configuration values and a service account key generated from that project. Sending push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging is free of charge on Firebase's standard (Spark) plan — no Firebase billing plan upgrade is required to use this extension. See Firebase Pricing and the Firebase Cloud Messaging documentation for current details from Google.
How It Works
After creating a Firebase project, copy its Web SDK configuration and a service account key into Stores → Configuration → Mage2Expert → Web Push and enable the module. Storefront visitors are shown the opt-in prompt after a configurable delay; admin users see their own opt-in prompt immediately after login. From that point on, new orders and reviews push to admin subscribers automatically, order status changes push to the customer, and merchants can create a template under Mage2Expert → Web Push → Templates and send it to some or all customer subscribers whenever they choose.
Use Cases
- Store operations teams — get an instant browser alert for every new order and product review without needing to keep the Admin dashboard open.
- Customer retention — send flash-sale, back-in-stock, or new-arrival push campaigns directly to opted-in customers without relying on email open rates.
- Order communication — keep customers informed the moment their order is invoiced or shipped, with a one-click link back to their order.
- Multi-admin stores — every admin user who opts in on their own browser receives the same real-time order and review alerts, no shared inbox required.
