Overview

Mage2Expert Social Share is an extension for Magento 2 that adds a fully admin-configurable "Share" button and popup modal to the product and category page, letting shoppers copy the page link or share it to WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Telegram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Mail, or Pinterest — or print the page — without leaving the storefront. On supported mobile browsers, tapping Share can open the device's native share sheet directly, with an automatic fallback to the modal when the Web Share API isn't available. Every platform — its enabled state, label, icon, and display order — is managed from its own dedicated settings group in the admin, so store owners can turn platforms on or off, relabel them, swap in a custom icon, or reorder the share row without ever touching a dynamic grid or a line of code. All settings are store-view scoped, making the extension a natural fit for multi-store and multi-language catalogs from the start.

Features

  • One-Click Share Trigger — a configurable "Share" button placed below the product name, below the Add to Cart button, inside the product image gallery, or as a sticky floating sidebar button on desktop. Icon only, text only, or icon + text display styles are all supported, along with a custom label and an optional custom trigger icon upload.
  • Category Page Sharing — an independent toggle adds the same Share button to category listing pages, sharing the category page itself rather than an individual product.
  • 10 Share Platforms, Individually Controlled — Copy Link, WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Telegram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Mail, Pinterest, and Print. Each platform is its own fixed settings group with Enable, Label, Icon, and Sort Order fields — no dynamic add/remove grid to manage.
  • Custom Icons Per Platform — upload a custom icon for any platform, or leave it empty to use the bundled default icon set. The same override is available for the trigger button itself.
  • Configurable Share Modal — custom heading text, Fade / Slide-up / None animation, an optional dimmed overlay with adjustable opacity, and close-on-overlay-click and close-on-ESC-key behavior, all set from the admin.
  • Copy Link with Confirmation — a one-tap Copy Link action using the browser's Clipboard API with an automatic fallback for older browsers, a configurable button label, a configurable "Copied!" confirmation message, and a configurable confirmation display duration.
  • Customizable Share Text — a share text template and a separate email subject template, both supporting product name, product URL, price, special price, and short description variables.
  • Native Mobile Web Share API — on supported mobile browsers, tapping Share opens the device's own OS share sheet pre-filled with the page title and URL, with an automatic, seamless fallback to the modal when the API isn't supported.
  • Accessible Modal — focus is trapped inside the modal while it's open, Tab and Shift+Tab cycle through its controls, the ESC key closes it, and focus is restored to the Share button on close.
  • Platform-Specific Controls — a Facebook App ID field for the Messenger share action, and a choice between the product's featured image or first gallery image for Pinterest shares.
  • Store-View Scope Throughout — every configuration field, from the trigger position down to each platform's sort order, is store-view scoped for multi-store and multi-language setups.
  • Enable / Disable Without Losing Settings — master switches for the whole module, the product page, and the category page suppress frontend output while preserving every platform label, icon, and sort order underneath.
  • Zero Core Code Modifications — built entirely on Magento's layout XML and standard block/template architecture. No class rewrites, no preferences, no patches, safe alongside Magento upgrades and other extensions.

How It Works

After enabling the extension, go to Stores → Configuration → Mage2Expert → Social Share. In General, choose where the Share button appears on the product page and how it looks. In Scope & Page Control, decide whether it should also appear on category pages. Then open each platform's settings group — WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Telegram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Mail, Pinterest, Print, and Copy Link — and set which ones are enabled, what label and icon each uses, and the order they appear in. Save, and the Share button is immediately live on the storefront. Clicking it opens the modal with the enabled platforms in the configured order; on a supported mobile browser it can open the native share sheet instead, automatically.

Platform Management

Rather than a dynamic grid where rows can be added or removed, every one of the ten supported platforms has its own permanent settings group with exactly four fields: Enabled, Label, Icon, and Sort Order. This keeps the admin experience predictable — there is nothing to create or delete, only toggle, relabel, re-icon, or reorder. Disabling a platform preserves its label, icon, and sort order, so re-enabling it later restores its exact previous configuration instantly.

Share Modal & Copy Link

The modal opens with the Copy Link action first, followed by the enabled platforms in their configured order. Copy Link briefly swaps its button label to a configurable confirmation message after a successful copy. Print triggers the browser's native print dialog for the current page. Both behave as first-class platforms in the row, each independently enabled, relabeled, re-icon'd, and reordered like any other.

Native Mobile Share

When the Web Share API option is enabled, tapping Share on a supported mobile browser bypasses the modal entirely and opens the device's own native share sheet — the same interface used by built-in apps — pre-filled with the page title and URL. Where the API isn't available, the extension automatically falls back to the modal, so no separate configuration is needed to support both experiences.

Use Cases

  • General retail storefronts — let shoppers share a product they like directly to WhatsApp or Facebook, driving word-of-mouth traffic without any paid promotion.
  • Gift and lifestyle stores — a prominent Pinterest share option helps shoppers save products to boards they revisit before purchasing.
  • Regional and international stores — WhatsApp and Telegram sharing reach audiences in markets where those platforms are the primary way customers exchange product recommendations.
  • B2B and wholesale catalogs — the Mail and Copy Link actions let buyers quickly forward a product or category link to a colleague for internal approval.
  • Multi-store setups — maintain a different set of enabled platforms, labels, and share text per store view without any extra configuration overhead.
