Overview

Mage2Expert Review Import & Export is an extension for Magento 2 that adds bulk CSV import and export for product reviews directly inside Magento's standard System → Data Transfer screens — the same Import and Export screens already used every day for products, customers, and advanced pricing. Once installed, a Product Reviews entity type appears in both screens, so there is no new admin menu or workflow to learn. Upload a spreadsheet of reviews and Magento validates every row — SKU existence, required fields, rating ranges, status values, and store view codes — before a single record is written, reporting exactly how many rows are valid and what failed on any that aren't. Export existing reviews, filtered by SKU, status, store view, review ID, or date range, to a clean CSV ready for editing in Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc. Every review the extension creates or updates is written through Magento's own native review and rating APIs, so imported reviews live in the exact same database tables Magento already uses for reviews entered by hand — no parallel, extension-owned table is ever created — and they appear instantly in the storefront, the Admin Reviews grid, rating averages, and GraphQL exactly like any other review. Reviews can be attributed to a registered customer by email or left as guest reviews, with an automatic guest fallback so a blank or unmatched email never blocks a row from importing. Ratings are handled per dimension — Quality, Value, Price, or any custom rating dimension your store defines — with each dimension validated against its own configured option range rather than a single generic rating value. An optional review ID column lets you export reviews, edit them in a spreadsheet, and re-import the file to update the matching reviews in place instead of creating duplicates, which makes bulk moderation, periodic backups, and store-to-store review migration straightforward and repeatable. Store-view scoping is supported throughout, so the same workflow works cleanly across multi-store and multi-language catalogs.

Features

  • CSV Import via the Standard Import Screen — a Product Reviews entity registered in System → Data Transfer → Import; run "Check Data" to validate the file, then "Import" to commit, using Magento's built-in Add/Update behavior.
  • CSV Export via the Standard Export Screen — a Product Reviews entity in System → Data Transfer → Export with a filterable Entity Attributes grid covering SKU, status, store view, review ID, created date, and more, plus per-column exclusion checkboxes.
  • Native Review & Rating Storage — writes exclusively through Magento\Review\Model\Review and Magento\Review\Model\Rating; no extension-owned database table, so imported reviews are indistinguishable from native ones everywhere in Magento.
  • Guest and Customer Attribution — match a review to a customer account by email, or leave it a guest review; an unmatched or blank email automatically falls back to a guest review instead of rejecting the row.
  • Per-Dimension Rating Columns — one CSV column per active rating dimension (for example rating_quality, rating_value, rating_price), each validated against that dimension's configured option range.
  • Update-in-Place Re-Import — populate the review_id column, typically from a prior export, to update existing reviews in place on re-import instead of creating duplicates.
  • Row-Level Validation — every row is checked for SKU existence, required fields, rating range, and a recognized status value before any database write, with a clear validation summary before you commit.
  • Multi-Store Support — assign a review to one or more store views with a comma-separated store_view column; every configuration setting is store-view scoped.
  • Configurable Import Defaults — set the default status, default store view, and a guest-import allow/disallow toggle under Stores → Configuration → Mage2Expert → Review Import Export.
  • No New Admin Workflow to Learn — the extension plugs entirely into Magento's existing Import and Export screens rather than introducing a separate grid or menu.
  • Zero Core Code Modifications — built entirely on Magento's own import/export entity framework; no class rewrites, no core file changes, safe alongside Magento upgrades and other extensions.

How It Works

Enable the extension and open System → Data Transfer → Import. Set Entity Type to Product Reviews, choose the Add/Update import behavior, and select a CSV file with columns for sku, title, detail, nickname, customer_email, status, store_view, created_at, and one rating_<code> column per active rating dimension. Click Check Data to validate every row — Magento reports exactly how many rows are valid and lists any errors — then click Import to commit the file. Reviews are attributed to the correct product the moment the SKU matches; no reindex is required. To export, open System → Data Transfer → Export, set Entity Type to Product Reviews, apply any filters you need, and click Continue. Export runs through Magento's standard message queue, the same mechanism every core export entity uses, so a queue consumer must be running for the file to be generated.

Update-in-Place & Bulk Moderation

Every export includes a review_id column. Leave it blank on import and each row creates a brand-new review. Populate it — typically by editing a file you exported earlier — and Magento updates that exact review in place instead of duplicating it. This is what makes an export → edit → re-import cycle safe: export pending reviews, change status to Approved for the ones you want to publish in a spreadsheet, and re-import the same file to approve dozens or hundreds of reviews in one pass without touching the Admin Reviews grid row by row.

Use Cases

  • Migrating reviews — bring reviews from a legacy platform or a previous Magento store into native Magento review tables in a single bulk import.
  • Bulk moderation — export pending reviews, approve them by editing the status column in a spreadsheet, and re-import to publish many at once.
  • Seeding new stores or products — pre-populate reviews for new products at launch instead of waiting for organic reviews to accumulate.
  • Backups — periodically export the full review set to a CSV that can restore missing reviews later if ever needed.
  • Multi-store rollouts — copy a curated review set from one store view to another by exporting and re-importing with the review_id column cleared.
