Back to topOverview
Back to topMage2Expert Product Labels is an extension for Magento 2 that adds configurable text or image labels — New, Sale, Best Seller, or anything else you define — on top of product images anywhere they appear in your store. Which products receive a label is decided by an admin-built rule using the same condition engine that powers Magento's native Catalog Price Rules, so any product attribute, category, best-seller status, or review rating can drive a label without writing a single line of code. Once a label is saved, it shows up automatically on category and search listing pages, the product detail page, the shopping cart, and every catalog widget, related, up-sell, and cross-sell block — with label size automatically scaled to match whichever thumbnail it sits on, from a small cart icon to a full-size gallery image.
Features
- Text or Image Labels — use the built-in gradient badge design for text labels, or upload your own ribbon, sticker, or badge image. A separate image can optionally be set just for the product detail page.
- Native Rule Condition Builder — the same AND/OR condition-tree widget used by Magento's own Catalog Price Rules and Cart Price Rules, reused directly. Combine conditions with ALL or ANY logic and nest condition groups for complex rules.
- Any Product Attribute — every attribute flagged "Used for Promo Rule Conditions" is automatically selectable in the condition builder, with no extra setup.
- Best Seller Condition — target products by total quantity ordered, aggregated from Magento's own bestseller reports.
- Review Rating / Count Condition — target products by average review rating percentage or number of reviews, using Magento's built-in review summary data.
- Seven Label Positions — Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right, Center, Middle Left, or Middle Right, chosen per label. Labels sharing the same position stack cleanly instead of overlapping.
- Priority-Based Conflict Resolution — when several labels match the same product, show every matching label together or only the single label with the highest priority, controlled by one global setting.
- Website and Customer Group Targeting — restrict any label to specific websites and/or customer groups, ideal for wholesale-only promotions or region-specific campaigns on multi-website installs.
- Active From / To Scheduling — schedule a label to start and stop automatically on given dates, with no cron job or reindex required.
- Dynamic Text Placeholders — text labels support live placeholders including price, special price, discount percentage, stock quantity, and stock status, substituted per product at render time.
- Coverage Across the Entire Storefront — labels render on category listings, layered navigation, search results, the product detail page gallery, catalog widgets (such as New Products or Catalog Products List), related products, up-sell, cross-sell blocks, and the shopping cart — all automatically, with no per-page configuration.
- Responsive Label Sizing — label font size, padding, and image dimensions scale to the actual rendered size of the product image container using CSS container queries, so the same label looks correctly proportioned on a large gallery image or a small cart thumbnail alike.
- Full Admin Grid — a dedicated Product Labels grid with sortable and filterable columns; status, position, and priority can be edited directly from the grid without opening the full form.
- Master Enable / Disable Switch — a single configuration toggle suppresses all frontend label output instantly, while every label, condition, and image remains fully intact.
- Zero Core Code Modifications — built entirely on Magento's plugin, layout XML, and UI component architecture. No class rewrites, no template overrides, no core file changes. Safe alongside Magento upgrades and other extensions.
How It Works
Go to Catalog → Product Labels → Add New Label, give the label a title, choose Text or Image type, set its position, priority, and display locations, then switch to the Conditions tab to build the rule that decides which products should show it — for example, an attribute equal to a certain value, a category, a best-seller threshold, or a minimum review rating. Save the label, and it appears immediately everywhere a matching product's image is rendered across the storefront. Enable or adjust the global settings under Stores → Configuration → Mage2Expert → Product Labels to control which page types show labels store-wide, and whether multiple matching labels should all display together or only the highest-priority one.
Where Labels Appear
- Category & Search Listing Pages — every product tile in a category grid, layered navigation result, or search result page.
- Product Detail Page — the main product gallery image, with an optional dedicated image just for this page.
- Widgets, Related, Up-Sell & Cross-Sell — any catalog widget and any related-products, up-sell, or cross-sell block, since the extension hooks the same core image-rendering block Magento reuses across the catalog.
- Shopping Cart — the product thumbnail shown in the cart, automatically sized down to remain legible and proportional on the smaller thumbnail.
Use Cases
- Seasonal & promotional campaigns — schedule "Sale" or "Black Friday" labels to appear and disappear automatically on set dates, with no manual product updates.
- New arrivals merchandising — automatically flag recently added or restocked products as "New" using a product attribute or category condition.
- Bestseller & social-proof badges — highlight top-selling products or highly-rated items using the built-in Best Seller and Review Rating conditions.
- Wholesale & B2B storefronts — show exclusive pricing or trade-only badges limited to specific customer groups.
- Multi-website retailers — run different labels, or the same label with different rules, on separate websites from one admin.
- Brand-consistent merchandising — reuse a single set of label rules across category pages, search, cart, and every catalog widget without re-configuring anything per page.
