Overview

Mage2Expert Product Grid Editor is an extension for Magento 2 that turns the admin Products grid into a fast, inline editing workspace, eliminating the repeated trips to the full product edit page that slow down day-to-day catalog maintenance. Click any editable cell — Name, SKU, Price, Quantity, Visibility, Status, or any custom attribute already added to the grid — change the value, and save it directly from the grid row, with the cell reverting cleanly and showing an inline error if the change fails validation. A one-click Create Duplicate row action clones a product using Magento's own product copy service, the same one behind the core product edit page's own Duplicate button, making it simple to spin up a new SKU from an existing product as a starting point. A dedicated Store View selector in the page header lets merchandisers switch scope and view or edit store-view-specific values — translated names, localized pricing, and the like — without touching the grid's native filters or losing track of which scope they are working in. To keep bulk-style editing safe, only one row can be edited at a time, with a configurable choice between blocking a second edit until the first is saved or automatically saving the row in progress. Every save still runs through Magento's standard product repository, so validation, indexing, and save events behave exactly as they do from the full edit page, and any attribute that isn't part of a given product's own attribute set is reported back clearly instead of silently failing to save. Built entirely on Magento's own UI Component grid framework, the extension adds zero core code changes and works alongside any other grid customization already in place, making it well suited to merchandising teams, data-entry staff, and multi-store catalogs that need to update products quickly without sacrificing Magento's built-in data integrity.

Features

  • Inline Editing for Core Attributes — Name, SKU, Price, Quantity, Visibility, and Status become editable directly in the Products grid, each with the correct input type and required-field validation.
  • Automatic Custom Attribute Support — any EAV attribute added to the grid via the Columns Control becomes inline-editable automatically, matched to the right input type: text, textarea, price, integer, boolean, select, or date.
  • Create Duplicate Row Action — a per-row Actions entry that clones a product using Magento's own Copier service, the identical mechanism behind the core product edit page's Duplicate button, with a confirmation dialog before it runs.
  • Dedicated Store View Selector — a website/store-view grouped selector in the page header, next to Add Product, that reloads the grid scoped to the selected store so store-view-specific values can be viewed and edited without opening the Filters panel.
  • Single-Row-Edit Enforcement — only one product row is editable at a time; a configurable setting either blocks a second row from opening until the first is saved or cancelled, or auto-saves the row in progress when a new one is started.
  • Standard Validation and Save Path — every inline save routes through ProductRepositoryInterface, so required-field checks, SKU-collision checks, and reindexing behave exactly as they do from the full product edit page.
  • Attribute-Set Aware Saving — if a submitted field is not part of the target product's own attribute set, it is skipped and reported back as a clear warning message rather than silently doing nothing.
  • Master Enable/Disable Switch — a single configuration toggle blocks every inline save and duplicate request at the server without uninstalling the extension.
  • Independent Feature Toggles — inline editing for custom attributes and the Create Duplicate action can each be switched on or off separately from the master switch.
  • Zero Core Code Modifications — built entirely on Magento's own UI Component grid, plugin, and ACL architecture. No class rewrites, no core template overrides, safe alongside Magento upgrades and other grid customizations.

How It Works

Once enabled, open Catalog > Products and click any editable cell — it turns into an inline input immediately. Change the value and confirm to save, or cancel to revert; a failed save (an empty required field, a duplicate SKU) shows the error inline on that cell only, leaving every other row and cell untouched. Custom attributes made visible in the grid through the Columns Control gear icon become editable the same way, with no extra setup beyond enabling Add to Column Options on the attribute itself. To duplicate a product, open its Actions dropdown and choose Create Duplicate; the new row appears in the grid, immediately editable like any other product.

Store View Scoping

A dedicated Store View selector renders in the page header, grouped by Website and Store View just like Magento's own store switchers elsewhere in the admin. Selecting a store view reloads the grid scoped to that store: store-view-specific attribute values display and save correctly, while All Store Views returns to the default scope. This selector is intentionally separate from the grid's own native Store View filter, so switching scope never appears as a removable filter chip and never leaves stale data behind when moving between store views.

Data Integrity and Attribute Sets

A grid column exists for every attribute made visible in the grid, regardless of whether a given row's specific attribute set actually includes it — an inherent property of any flat, tabular grid. Rather than letting an edit to an out-of-set attribute silently disappear, the extension checks each submitted field against the target product's own attribute set before saving, applies every field that belongs, and reports back exactly which fields were skipped and why — turning what would otherwise look like silent data loss into a clear, actionable message.

Use Cases

  • High-volume catalog management — update prices, statuses, or visibility across many products quickly without repeatedly opening and saving the full product edit page.
  • Seasonal and promotional updates — adjust Special Price, Status, or custom promotional attributes in bulk-adjacent fashion, row by row, straight from the grid.
  • Multi-store catalog teams — review and correct store-view-specific values (translated names, localized pricing) without leaving the Products grid.
  • Product variant creation — use Create Duplicate to quickly spin up a near-identical product as a starting point for a new SKU, then adjust the copy inline or on its own edit page.
  • Data-entry teams and merchandisers — reduce clicks and page loads for routine attribute maintenance while keeping full standard Magento validation and indexing intact.
