News Ticker

Mage2Expert News Ticker is an extension for Magento that adds a fully configurable scrolling news bar to any storefront page, giving merchants a lightweight, always- visible channel for time-sensitive messaging that doesn't require a homepage banner redesign or a developer's help every time the wording changes. Shipping deadlines, holiday hours, flash sale windows, low-stock alerts, policy updates, or a simple free-shipping threshold reminder can all be edited from a plain text field and go live across the store in seconds. Content is organized into Ticker Groups, and each group holds any number of individual News Items — every group carries its own background color, text color, panel width, scroll speed, direction, and animation effect, so a single store can run a bold, high-contrast ticker on the homepage and a quieter, on-brand variant on product or category pages without maintaining separate content or duplicating a single group. Because News Items are managed independently of the ticker's placement, merchants can queue several rotating messages in one group, retire a promotion by disabling a single item, or reorder what shoppers see next with a sort order field — all without touching a page template. A native Magento widget places any Ticker Group on the homepage, category pages, product pages, or CMS content through the standard Insert Widget tool, and every style and animation setting can be individually overridden per placement, so the same group can be reused with a different look on every page it appears on. The scrolling text itself enters and exits the bar edge-to-edge for a smooth, professional marquee effect rather than simply popping into view, and shoppers get a built-in pause and resume control — activated by a click or by hovering the mouse — so a fast-moving announcement never gets in the way of actually reading it. Everything is managed from two clean, sortable admin grids with mass enable, disable, and delete actions, and the whole feature can be switched off instantly from a single configuration toggle without losing any content — no theme edits, no template overrides, and no custom layout XML required to get a ticker running.

• Per-Placement Overrides — every widget instance can independently override its Ticker Group's speed, direction, effect, background color, text color, and width, so one group can be reused with a different look on every page.

• Sample Data Included — a ready-to-use "Latest News" Ticker Group with two sample News Items is created automatically on installation.

How It Works

After enabling the extension, go to Content → News Ticker → Ticker Groups and create a group, or use the sample "Latest News" group created automatically on install. Set its background color, text color, panel width, scroll speed, direction, and effect. Then go to Content → News Ticker → News Items and add one or more messages, assigning each to that group. Finally, go to Content → Widgets → Add Widget, choose News Ticker as the type, pick a page and container in Storefront Properties, and select the Ticker Group under Widget Options. Save and the ticker is live — no cache reindex or theme change required. 

Native Widget with Per-Placement Overrides

The News Ticker widget behaves like any other Magento widget: it can be inserted through the WYSIWYG editor on a CMS page or block, or assigned a Layout Update to appear on specific pages and containers site-wide. What sets it apart is that every placement can restyle the same Ticker Group independently: 

• Ticker Group — the only required field; selects which group's news items this instance displays
• Scroll Speed override — a different pace for this placement only
• Direction override — Left or Right, independent of the group's default
• Effect override — Linear or Swing easing for this placement only
• Background & Text Color overrides — restyle the same content for a different page's color scheme
• Panel Width override — fit the ticker to a narrower sidebar or a full-width banner

Admin Management

Ticker Groups and News Items each have their own sortable, filterable admin grid with mass Activate, Deactivate, and Delete actions — no need to open individual records for routine housekeeping. The News Items grid displays which group every item belongs to, so managing announcements across several groups stays organized as content grows.
