Back to topOverview
Back to topMage2Expert Live Chat is an extension for Magento 2 that adds a floating, multi-channel contact widget to every storefront page. Instead of locking shoppers into a single chat box, the widget opens a panel of direct links to Phone, Email, SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Microsoft Teams, and Google Maps — so visitors can reach you through whichever channel they already use, with one tap. Every channel is managed entirely from the admin: turn channels on or off independently, control the order they appear in, and enter a plain phone number, email address, or profile URL — the extension automatically builds the correct tel:, mailto:, sms:, WhatsApp, or Microsoft Teams deep link behind the scenes. The launcher position, theme color, title, welcome message, and icon are all configurable without touching a template file, and a REST endpoint plus a GraphQL query expose the same configuration for headless and PWA storefronts. All settings are store-view scoped, making the extension fully compatible with multi-store and multi-language setups from the start.
Features
- Floating Multi-Channel Widget — a single launcher button expands into a panel of direct contact links, rendered on every page through layout XML with no template overrides required.
- Nine Built-In Channels — Phone, Email, SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Microsoft Teams, and Google Maps, each with its own enable switch and configuration fields.
- Per-Channel Sort Order — a Sort Order field on every channel controls the order it appears in the panel, independent of the order the settings groups appear in the admin.
- Smart Link Building — enter a plain phone number, email address, or profile URL and the extension automatically formats the correct
tel:,sms:,mailto:,https://wa.me/…, or Microsoft Teams 1:1 chat deep link. - WhatsApp Pre-Filled Message — configure a default message that is ready to send the moment a visitor opens WhatsApp from the widget.
- Microsoft Teams Deep Link — connect visitors directly to a Teams chat using just a work/school email address, with no bot or app registration required.
- Configurable Appearance — widget title, welcome message, four launcher positions (Bottom Right, Bottom Left, Middle Right, Middle Left), a built-in theme color picker, and an optional custom launcher icon upload.
- Consistent Brand Color — the configured theme color is applied to the launcher, the panel header, and every channel icon and label, so the whole widget always matches your brand instead of falling back to a browser's default link styling.
- Automatic Hiding — the widget renders only when the master switch is on and at least one channel has a valid value; an enabled channel left empty is skipped automatically, with nothing left broken or blank on the page.
- REST API — a public
GET /V1/livechat/configendpoint returns the fully resolved widget configuration for any custom or third-party frontend. - Store-View Scope Throughout — every setting, including each channel's enable flag and value, is store-view scoped for multi-store and multi-language setups.
- Enable / Disable Without Uninstalling — a master switch in Stores → Configuration → Magento Expert → Live Chat suppresses the widget and reports it as disabled over REST while preserving every channel setting. Re-enabling restores everything immediately.
- Zero Core Code Modifications — built entirely on Magento's layout XML, configuration, and service contract architecture. No class rewrites, no patches. Safe alongside Magento upgrades and other extensions.
How It Works
After enabling the extension, go to Stores → Configuration → Magento Expert → Live Chat. In General Settings, turn on Enable Live Chat Widget and set a title, welcome message, position, and theme color. Then open any of the nine channel sections — for example Channel: WhatsApp — set Enable to Yes and fill in the number or address field. Save the configuration and flush the cache. The widget appears immediately on the storefront with every configured, enabled channel listed in the panel, ordered by each channel's Sort Order value.
Channel Reference
- Phone — click-to-call link built from the configured phone number.
- Email — opens the visitor's default mail client with a
mailto:link. - SMS — opens the visitor's messaging app with an
sms:link. - WhatsApp — opens WhatsApp Web or the WhatsApp app with an optional pre-filled message.
- Facebook — links directly to your configured Facebook page.
- Instagram — links directly to your configured Instagram profile.
- Twitter / X — links directly to your configured profile.
- Microsoft Teams — opens a 1:1 Teams chat with the configured account email.
- Google Maps — links to your configured store location.
Use Cases
- Service and support-heavy stores — give shoppers a choice of phone, email, SMS, or WhatsApp instead of forcing them through a single contact form.
- B2B and wholesale stores — connect buyers directly to a Microsoft Teams account for account-specific conversations without a separate booking tool.
- Local and multi-location retailers — surface a Google Maps link alongside phone and WhatsApp so shoppers can call ahead or get directions in one place.
- Social-first brands — keep Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X one tap away from every product and category page.
