Free Gift

Mage2Expert Free Gift is an extension for Magento 2 that automatically rewards shoppers with a free product once their cart meets conditions you define — a minimum cart subtotal, specific SKUs in the cart, or both. Instead of relying on coupon codes or manual cart price rules, merchants build unlimited gift rules from a dedicated admin grid, each scoped to a website and customer group, with its own priority so only one rule and one gift ever apply to a cart at a time. A live progress bar tells shoppers exactly how much more they need to spend to unlock their gift, the gift line item is clearly badged as "Free Gift" on the cart page and mini cart, and the gift itself is fully protected — its quantity is locked and the Edit and Move to Wish List actions are hidden — so the promotion behaves predictably from the moment it is unlocked through checkout. Gifts are added and removed automatically as the cart changes, with no manual intervention required from the shopper or the merchant. 

Features

• Unlimited Free Gift Rules — create as many rules as needed from a dedicated Marketing → Free Gift Rules grid, each with its own name, active date range, and priority.
• Flexible Conditions — combine a Cart Subtotal threshold and a SKU-is-one-of condition with ALL/ANY logic, or leave conditions empty to apply a rule to every in-scope cart.
• Website & Customer Group Scoping — restrict each rule to specific websites and customer groups, making the extension suitable for multi-store setups and segmented promotions such as wholesale-only or guest-only gifts.
• Rule Priority — only one rule, and therefore only one gift, is ever granted per cart. The Priority field controls which rule wins when more than one rule is eligible.
• Fully Automatic Gift Management — the configured gift product is added at quantity 1 and price $0.00 the instant a cart qualifies, and removed automatically the instant it no longer does — for example after a quantity reduction drops the subtotal back below the threshold.
• Live Progress Bar — a configurable message such as "Spend $6.00 more to unlock a free gift!" with a visual progress bar, shown on the cart page and mini cart. The remaining amount is always rendered in the store's currency format, and the text can be set per rule or store-wide.
• Configurable Free Gift Badge — a customizable label (default "Free Gift") with an optional uploaded badge image, displayed next to the gift line item on the cart page and mini cart.
• Gift Protection — the gift's quantity field is locked, and the Edit and Move to Wish List actions are hidden for the gift row, enforced both in the storefront interface and on the server so the protections cannot be bypassed.
• Mini Cart Integration — the gift badge, label, and locked quantity are mirrored in the header mini cart, independently togglable from the cart page display.
• Store-View Scoped Configuration — every display setting (gift label, badge image, progress bar text, on/off toggles) can be configured independently per store view.
• REST API Endpoint — a read-only endpoint returns the gifts applicable to a given cart, useful for headless and PWA storefronts.
• Enable / Disable without Uninstalling — a master Enable Module switch in Stores → Configuration → Magento Expert → Free Gift suppresses all frontend output while every rule and setting is preserved.
• Zero Core Code Modifications — built entirely on Magento's plugin, UI Component, and layout XML architecture. No class rewrites, no preferences, no patches.

How It Works

After enabling the extension, go to Magento Expert → Free Gift Rules → Add New Rule. Give the rule a name, set its Websites and Customer Groups, and define the Conditions — for example, Cart Subtotal equals or greater than 40. In the Gift Product section, enter the SKU of the product to give away, and in the Progress Bar section, enable the progress bar and enter a message using %1 as a placeholder for the remaining amount. Save the rule. From that point on, the extension evaluates every active cart automatically: shoppers below the threshold see the progress bar counting down their remaining spend, and the moment the cart qualifies, the gift product appears in the cart and mini cart at no charge — no further action is required from the shopper or the merchant. 

Cart & Mini Cart Experience

The cart page and mini cart both show the progress bar while a shopper has not yet qualified for a gift, and switch to displaying the gift line item — complete with badge, $0.00 price, and a locked quantity field — the moment a rule applies. If a shopper changes their cart in a way that drops them back below a rule's threshold, the gift line item is removed automatically on the next page load; shoppers may also remove the gift manually at any time, and it will be re-added automatically if the cart still qualifies.
