Back to topOverview
Back to topMage2Expert Blog is an extension for Magento 2 that gives your store a full-featured, natively integrated blog platform — without a separate CMS, without third-party hosting, and without touching Magento's core code. Store owners publish posts through a familiar WYSIWYG admin interface, organise content into flat categories and tag clouds, assign posts to named authors with bios and social links, and moderate threaded reader comments — all from the same Magento admin they already use every day. On the frontend, every post detail page includes a reading-time estimate, a scrolling progress bar, an auto-generated table of contents, an emoji reaction bar, social share buttons for six networks, related posts, related products, and previous/next navigation — all independently togglable per store view. The extension ships with six native Magento sidebar widgets, navigation link injection for the header, footer, and main category menu, RSS feed output, a site-wide featured post announcement banner, and an import tool for WordPress WXR export files and CSV data. Per-post Open Graph tags, Twitter/X Card tags, and Article JSON-LD rich snippets are generated automatically, and all active post URLs are submitted to the Magento XML sitemap without any additional configuration.
Features
- Post Management with WYSIWYG Editor — create and edit posts from a dedicated admin grid under Mage2Expert → Blog → Posts. Each post stores a title, URL key, featured image, short excerpt, full HTML body (via Magento's built-in TinyMCE editor with Insert Widget and Insert Image support), publish date, optional auto-disable date, active toggle, allow-comments toggle, featured flag, and a promotional coupon code callout block. A view counter tracks unique visitor sessions per post.
- Blog Categories — organise posts into flat categories, each with its own archive listing page at
/blog/category/<url-key>. Category records store title, URL key, description, image, sort order, active status, and per-category SEO fields (Meta Title, Meta Keywords, Meta Description). The category sidebar widget lists all active categories with post counts. - Tag Cloud — assign tags to posts from a dedicated tag grid or create them on the fly in the post edit form. Each tag generates a filterable archive page at
/blog/tag/<url-key>. The Tag Cloud sidebar widget sizes each tag proportionally to its post count and links directly to the tag archive page. - Multi-Author Support — manage an unlimited number of named authors independently of Magento admin users, making it easy to credit guest contributors, agency writers, or team members. Each author record stores name, URL key, avatar image, short bio, full bio (HTML), and social links for Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and a personal website. Clicking an author's name anywhere on the frontend leads to a dedicated author archive page at
/blog/author/<url-key>listing all their published posts. - Threaded Comments — native comment system with nested replies displayed one level deep under the parent comment. Clicking Reply scrolls to the comment form, pre-fills an @mention, and updates the form title to "Reply to [Author]". A Cancel Reply button resets the form. Name, email (kept private), and message are required. Logged-in customers have their name and email pre-filled from the session.
- Comment Moderation & Integrations — choose between three comment engines: Native (built-in threaded comments), Facebook Comments (using a configured Facebook App ID), or Disqus (using a configured shortname). Native comments support auto-approve or a Pending moderation queue, an admin email notification on new submissions, and an optional Google reCAPTCHA v2 checkbox to prevent spam. The admin Comments grid supports mass Approve, Reject (mark as Spam), and Delete actions.
- Social Sharing Buttons — six independently togglable share buttons appear at the bottom of each post detail page: Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Bluesky, and WhatsApp. Share links use each platform's native web share URL scheme — no third-party JavaScript SDK is loaded, keeping page weight minimal.
- Per-Post SEO Fields — every post record carries its own Meta Title, Meta Keywords, Meta Description, Meta Robots (INDEX/NOINDEX, FOLLOW/NOFOLLOW), Canonical URL override, Open Graph Image (og:image), OG Title override, and OG Description override. Fields fall back gracefully to the post title and meta description when left empty.
- Open Graph & Twitter/X Card Tags — when enabled, each post detail page outputs
og:type,og:url,og:title,og:description,og:image,og:site_name,og:locale,article:published_time, andarticle:modified_timefor rich social previews. Twitter/X Card tags (twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, twitter:image, twitter:site) are generated independently and support both summary and summary_large_image card types. - Article Rich Snippets (JSON-LD) — injects a
type: Articleortype: BlogPostingschema.org JSON-LD block into each post page, including headline, description, image, author, publisher name, datePublished, and dateModified. The snippet type is configurable per store view. Use Google's Rich Results Test to verify structured data output after publishing. - XML Sitemap Integration — all active blog post URLs with a past publish date are automatically submitted to Magento's native sitemap generator (Marketing → SEO & Search → Site Map). Configurable sitemap priority (0.0–1.0) and change frequency (always / hourly / daily / weekly / monthly / yearly / never) per store view.
- Six Sidebar Widgets — Recent Posts, Popular Posts (by view count), Categories (with post counts), Tag Cloud, Archive (posts grouped by month with counts and links to date archive pages at
/blog/archive/<year>/<month>), and Search. Each widget is a first-class Magento widget registered viawidget.xmland placeable on any page from Content → Widgets. Configuration toggles control whether each widget appears in the blog's own sidebar layout. - Navigation Link Injection — add a Blog link to the header top links, the footer links column, and the main category navigation menu bar. Label and each placement are independently toggled per store view. The menu link label defaults to "Blog" but is fully configurable.
- Reader Engagement Tools — six independently togglable engagement features: (1) Reading Time — estimated duration from word count at a configurable words-per-minute rate; (2) Reading Progress Bar — thin accent-colour bar fixed at the top of the viewport that fills as the reader scrolls; (3) Emoji Reaction Bar — six reactions (
