Back to topReadable category filters for Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce
SEO Layered Navigation gives category filter URLs human-readable option labels and provides separate controls for canonical links, robots directives and filter-page sitemap entries. Configure URL presentation and indexing policy from Magento Admin.
Features
- Readable query parameters, such as
?color=black, or optional path URLs such as/gear.html/color/black. - Alias generation for filterable select and multiselect attributes, with store-specific option labels and collision handling.
- Optional multi-select filters for supported catalogue, search and theme combinations.
- Separate canonical and robots controls for filtered category pages.
- An explicit attribute whitelist to select single-attribute landing pages for indexing and sitemap inclusion.
- Pagination controls and configurable robots directives for non-indexable filter combinations.
- Admin alias rebuilding and a command-line preview using
bin/magento etechflow:seo-nav:generate-aliases --dry-run. - Default, Website and Store View configuration for the General and SEO sections.
Configure deliberately
Readable URLs, multi-select, metadata management and filter sitemap entries are off by default in inspected build 1.2.1. Generate aliases and validate category results before enabling features on a live store. URL presentation and metadata management have separate switches.
Use an explicit list of attribute codes for predictable indexing. In the inspected policy, a blank list permits any single attribute for metadata, but produces no filter sitemap entries. Multiple selected values of one attribute still count as one attribute; test their canonical and robots output before publication.
Compatibility and setup
Designed for Magento category layered navigation, including Luma and Hyva storefronts. Check the Marketplace compatibility selector and exact package dependencies for your environment. Inspected internal build 1.2.1 declares PHP 8.1-8.4; PHP 8.5 compatibility is not established by this review. Theme customisations, other SEO extensions and search integrations should be tested on staging.

Frequently asked questions
Will readable filter URLs improve rankings automatically?
No. The extension provides URL and metadata controls; it does not guarantee indexing, ranking or traffic.
Does enabling readable URLs also enable canonical management?
No. Metadata management has its own setting and requires deliberate configuration.
Can I preview an alias rebuild?
Yes. Use the CLI dry-run option, optionally restricted with --attribute and --store. Review changed labels and existing links before writing new mappings.
Where are the instructions?
The User Guide covers the setup workflow, the Installation Guide covers deployment and acceptance checks, and the Reference Manual lists defaults, policy rules and CLI options.
