Overview

Delete Product Images for Magento 2 is intended to delete the unused product images from the media directory through the CLI command from the terminal. Basically these images are not associated with any database table, thus using extra space on your hosting server. With the passage of time, the number of products in a store grows exponentially and each product is associated with media files. As you delete or add more products some unused product images are left behind in your media folder occupying valuable space. Besides occupying space, it also reduces the page load time- which is one of the major reasons for the decrease in the page load time and number of sales.

To overcome this issue Emmo's Delete Product Images is one of the powerful tools, that provides a list of unused images; the amount of space that is wasted by unused images; with the help of a single command from terminal we can delete the unused images.

It is cumbersome to delete the unused images manually while doing so we waste plenty of precious time in figuring out and filtering the images which are not directly associated with any database tables. This module makes it easy for store admins to list down all the unwanted images in one place. Store admins can also execute a dry run to see the list of unused images before actually deleting the product images. This delete option via CLI command from terminal makes it sure, that you are not losing your valuable data by any mistake; an alert and warning is generated before the actual execution; also a list of files that we are going to delete is displayed. Once you are done with the removal of unwanted images from the media directory, it increases the page load time; higher ratings and helps in optimizing your store.

There are several different cases where this extension is worth using. For example,

  • If your catalog is huge and you are running out of space on your hosting server
  • If your page is slow and it takes more time to load
  • If you have a small team to manage your store and you want to save time for more important stuff
