Trader Information
Back to topOverview
Back to topEmmo Checkout Custom Fields lets merchants collect extra order details at checkout for Magento 2 — preferred delivery slots, gift wrap, PO numbers, delivery notes, requested dates, package counts, and any other information — without requiring custom development for each field. After installation, store administrators can create unlimited fields under Sales → Checkout Custom Fields, choose an input type such as Text, Textarea, Select, Checkbox, Date, or Number, and place each field on the Shipping Step, Payment Step before payment methods, or the Order Summary Sidebar. Shoppers see these fields during checkout with optional tooltips, default values, and required validation, while submitted answers are saved with the quote and order. In the Magento Admin, captured values can appear as columns in Sales → Orders and in an Additional Information section on the order view. Selected fields can also be included in New Order, Invoice, and Shipment emails after adding the provided template variables. Merchants can customize the module from the Admin by enabling or disabling the module or individual fields, setting sort order, restricting visibility by customer group or store view, and choosing whether values appear in the order grid or emails. Luma checkout works out of the box, while headless storefronts and Hyvä Checkout can read and save values through REST and GraphQL APIs. Typical use cases include wholesale PO numbers, florist or grocery delivery slots, furniture delivery dates, gift wrap, and customer delivery instructions on Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce.

How Checkout Changes
Shoppers see additional questions only where you choose to place them. A delivery-slot Select field can appear on the Shipping Step with a tooltip. A PO Number Text field can appear on the Payment Step before payment methods. Compact prompts can also appear in the Order Summary Sidebar beside cart totals.
Required fields prevent the order from being placed until the required information is provided. Disabled fields are removed from checkout without deleting their historical values from previous orders.
Admin Management
A new Sales → Checkout Custom Fields menu allows administrators to create, edit, enable, disable, and manage checkout fields.
Stores → Configuration → Emmo → Checkout Custom Fields allows the complete module to be enabled or disabled.
When Show In Order Grid is enabled for a field, captured values can appear in Sales → Orders. For example, a delivery slot value may be displayed directly in the order grid.
Opening an individual order displays an Additional Information section containing the configured checkout field labels and captured values.
Email Integration
Enable Show In Email for each field that should be included in transactional emails.
Then add the following variables to your New Order, Invoice, or Shipment email template and assign the template under Sales Emails:
{{depend emmoCheckoutCustomFieldsHtml}}
{{var emmoCheckoutCustomFieldsHtml|raw}}
{{/depend}}
Customers and staff can then see an Additional Information section containing the selected checkout values.
Available template variables include:
emmoCheckoutCustomFieldsHtml — Ready-to-display HTML block
emmo_checkout_custom_fields — Array containing field labels, values, and codes
Enabling Show In Email alone does not add the information automatically. The template variables must also be included in the email template.
Popular Use Cases
Preferred Delivery Slot — Let customers select Morning, Afternoon, or Evening delivery windows
Gift Wrap — Offer optional gift packaging through a Checkbox field
Delivery Instructions — Collect gate codes, reception instructions, or arrival requests
PO Number — Collect purchase order numbers for B2B workflows
Requested Delivery Date — Allow customers to provide a preferred fulfillment or delivery date
Number of Packages — Collect additional information useful for warehouse or carrier workflows
Example Select Options
The following example can be used when configuring Select field options:
[{"value":"morning","label":"Morning (9 AM - 12 PM)"},{"value":"afternoon","label":"Afternoon (12 PM - 5 PM)"},{"value":"evening","label":"Evening (5 PM - 9 PM)"}]
