Back to topOverview
Back to topAs a part of Block, Afterpay and Cash App Pay are leading payment solutions focused on a shared mission of economic empowerment. Together, these solutions enable merchants to unlock growth and next gen shoppers.
As a global payment solution, Afterpay allows customers to pay overtime, and merchants get paid upfront in full with no repayment risk. We offer flexible payment options to either pay-in-4 in 6 weeks or pay monthly over 6 or 12 months. Afterpay is the #1 BNPL in Australia and New Zealand.
The Afterpay extension for Adobe Commerce adds Afterpay as a native payment method on your store. Magento creates the checkout through the Afterpay API and sends the shopper to Afterpay-hosted pages to finish payment. After they confirm or cancel, they return to your Magento success or cart page. You are paid upfront in full, with no repayment risk. Shoppers pay over time with pay in 4 over 6 weeks, or pay monthly over 6 or 12 months where consumer lending is available.
On the storefront, Afterpay appears as a checkout payment option with the Afterpay logo, payment-schedule messaging, and a Continue to Afterpay button. You can also show Express Checkout buttons on the product, cart, and mini-cart pages, so shoppers complete payment in an Afterpay-hosted popup without going through the full Magento checkout. US merchants can add Cash App Pay as a second Magento payment method. Shoppers choose Cash App Pay at checkout, complete payment in Cash App (hosted Cash App Pay button, and a mobile redirect when needed), then return to your Magento success page. In Admin, you can capture and refund Afterpay and Cash App Pay orders (including partial refunds), choose immediate or deferred payment flow, exclude product categories, and turn messaging and Express Checkout on or off per page. The extension supports Luma, Hyvä (including Hyvä Checkout), and headless storefronts through GraphQL and REST.
Afterpay is available for merchants in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada. Cash App Pay is available for US merchants.

Security
Afterpay is a PCI DSS Level 1 certified service provider. Cardholder data is collected, processed, and stored by Afterpay and Cash App on Afterpay-hosted and Cash App–hosted pages, not by this Magento extension.
This integration uses both Redirect and API:
- Redirect (Afterpay): At Magento checkout, the shopper is redirected to Afterpay-hosted pages (for example, the Afterpay portal) to enter payment details and complete the Afterpay screenflow. Express Checkout uses an Afterpay-hosted popup for the same purpose. In both flows, the shopper is redirected away from your Magento store to pay. They are not entering card or bank details on your Magento checkout form.
- Redirect / hosted button (Cash App Pay): For Cash App Pay, Magento loads a Cash App–hosted payment button on checkout through the Afterpay JavaScript SDK. Shoppers complete payment in Cash App. On mobile, they may be redirected to Cash App, then returned to Magento. Payment credentials are entered in Cash App, not on your Magento checkout form.
- API: Magento communicates with Afterpay over HTTPS using your Merchant ID and encrypted Merchant Key. API calls create a checkout, return a checkout token and redirect URL, then capture, refund, or reverse the payment. Those calls send order, amount, and Magento customer/address data already collected for the quote. They do not send or receive card numbers, CVV, expiry dates, or other sensitive authentication data. Cash App Pay uses the same Afterpay checkout API and token flow.
PCI SAQ level: This redirect and hosted-page integration meets PCI DSS SAQ A. Payment pages are hosted by Afterpay and Cash App. Magento does not present card fields, and it does not process or transmit cardholder data.
Customer payment data on the Magento server:
- Customer payment data is not entered into the Magento server.
- Customer payment data is not stored on the Magento server.
Magento stores only standard Magento order information (such as name, email, and shipping/billing address) plus Afterpay and Cash App Pay checkout tokens and order identifiers used to complete capture, refund, and reconciliation. Merchant credentials are stored encrypted in Magento configuration. Debug logs redact consumer, billing, and shipping fields.
