Overview

The Action Log extension for Magento 2 provides complete transparency and control over admin activity, system changes, and backend security. Instead of relying on assumptions when issues arise, merchants gain a centralized audit trail that records who performed each action, what was changed, and when it occurred.

Configuration updates and entity edits to login attempts and active sessions - every critical event is logged directly inside the Magento Admin panel. Built-in before-and-after snapshots allow safe rollback of changes, while authentication tracking and session monitoring strengthen backend protection.

Business Value

Gain Full Administrative Transparency

Track every important admin action and system event with clear visibility into user, timestamp, IP address, and browser details.

Investigate Issues Faster

Filter logs by user, entity, event type, date, or IP address to quickly identify the source of incorrect changes or operational issues.

Strengthen Backend Security

Monitor login history, detect repeated failed attempts, review unusual access patterns, and terminate suspicious sessions directly from the admin panel.

Support Compliance & Internal Policies

Maintain detailed, auditable records of backend activity to meet internal governance standards or regulatory requirements.

Reduce Operational Risk

Restore edited entities using stored before-and-after snapshots, eliminating the need for manual database corrections.

Feature Highlights

Centralized Admin Action Log

All recorded actions are stored in a single, searchable tables inside the Magento Admin panel.

  • Log edits, views, restores, and system-level events
  • Track changes and entity operations
  • Monitor API, cron, and CLI activity (DI-based commands)
  • Filter records by user, entity, event type, date, and IP address
  • Export filtered logs for reporting and audits

Each record clearly displays who initiated the action, when it occurred, and what data was affected.

Detailed Change History & Safe Rollback

For edited entities, Action Log stores both old and new values, allowing admins to review exactly what was modified.

  • Compare before-and-after snapshots
  • Restore previous values directly from the event view
  • Display custom restore warning messages
  • Avoid risky manual database fixes

This ensures accountability while enabling quick recovery from mistakes.

Authentication Log & Login Monitoring

Track all admin authentication events in a dedicated log.

  • Successful logins
  • Failed login attempts
  • Logouts and session expirations
  • IP address and browser tracking
  • Session duration details

Optional email alerts can notify selected recipients about successful logins or repeated failed attempts, helping security teams respond quickly to suspicious activity.

Active Admin Session Control

Monitor all currently active backend sessions in real time.

  • View active users, IP addresses, browsers, and last activity
  • Detect suspicious or outdated sessions
  • Terminate other users’ sessions directly from the admin panel

This feature is especially useful during user offboarding, permission changes, or security incidents.

Flexible Logging & Noise Control

Configure exactly what should be recorded to balance visibility and performance.

  • Enable or disable logging of page views, API actions, cron jobs, CLI commands, and system events
  • Exclude selected entity types from logging
  • Customize restore warning messages

This flexibility ensures relevant auditing without unnecessary data overload.

Automated Log Retention & Cleanup

Keep your database optimized with built-in retention controls.

  • Separate retention periods for events, snapshots, and login attempts
  • Automatic nightly cleanup via cron
  • Configurable storage duration (e.g., 30–90 days or longer if required)

Maintain long-term visibility while preventing excessive database growth.

Support Policy
